Celtic’s transfer business has come under a lot of scrutiny over the past few months. The lack of January business only compounded the fact that many of Brendan Rodgers’ summer signings have been branded as not good enough.
However, one summer loan signing that is starting to show a lot of promise could be available in the summer if Celtic are willing to meet the asking price.
Paulo Bernardo will cost Celtic around £6m if Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring him to Glasgow permanently. That’s according to a report in the Irish Daily Mirror [print edition page 45]
The Portuguese u21 international has been in great form for Celtic this season. After an initial slow start to his career, Bernardo has quickly won over the fans with goals against Rangers and Dundee.
The 22-year-old has also coupled that with some very good performances against St Mirren and Ross County so far this season. [Fotmob]
The same report also claims that Rodgers could land January loan signing, Adam Idah, for a fee in excess of £3m should the Republic of Ireland international’s loan spell be a success.
Idah made his debut in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at the weekend and it is fair to say he impressed.
The 22-year-old striker looked lively and physical and gave Celtic a different option to Kyogo up front. Whilst it’s too early to make any judgement on the player, the fans will be fairly pleased with what they saw of him on Saturday despite the result.
Whether Rodgers has any desire to bring both players to the club permanently remains to be seen but early indications are that both could do a good job for Celtic for the remainder of the season.
With Rodgers looking to add players to both positions, the ball is now in Bernardo and Idah’s court to show the Celtic boss they are worth a £9m punt.
In other news, Celtic almost signed another two players before the January window closed
